Required Orientation

As part of a larger student success and retention strategy, all new students matriculating to Southwest this Fall will complete required orientation before they register for classes. Students will have the choice of completing the orientation on campus at either Union or Macon or online. The online orientation mirrors what will be covered in the on campus orientation and includes a video welcome from Dr. Essex and a current student, sections on academics, support services, student life, policies, procedures and financial aid and last, student conduct and campus safety. The last step in the new orientation process is an advising session with an advisor in the advising center who will then clear the student to register for class. A link to view the online orientation will be sent out soon so that you can preview it. For any questions, please contact Vanessa Dowdy at vdowdy@southwest.tn.edu.

AdvisorTrac tip of the month

When looking up a student's record from the Main menu, you can type in the student's e-mail address (without the @southwest.tn.edu) instead of last name, comma, space, first name and AdvisorTrac will pull up their record.

Upcoming Training

If you have not attended an AdvisorTrac 101 session in the past 6 months, I strongly encourage you to do so. The way we use AdvisorTrac has been streamlined and more functionlity to provide you with information to better advise students has been added. For example, student records now include an unofficial student transcript that includes section numbers and instructor names on courses. Additionally Developmental Studies requirements will be available in AdvisorTrac soon and the location of that information is covered in the new sessions. Even more improvements are on the horizon based primarily on faculty feedback and ideas.
